Marie Le Lievre presents paintings and works on paper that layer colour with forensic attention to detail. Her compositions combine 'Tomes'—pooled layers of paint with lichen-like and otherworldly effects—with 'Notes,' hand-drawn charcoal lines applied with energy and vigour. Large canvases such as Tomes Notes (Packed) and Halcyon Notes (Packed) balance darkness and light, with purples, rose pink, orange and green emerging from darker masses. A suite of works on paper, layered with oil and colour, features motifs and rhythms delicately scratched into their surfaces. In the back gallery, a frieze of unstretched canvases hung low presents the Vessels (Paraphernalia) series—busy, patterned compositions depicting domestic items with herbal floral borders. These works reflect the artist's recent Barcelona residency, showing evolved maturity in her practice.
