Elemental Transcendence

The Japanese-Australian artist, Mitsuo Shoji has cultivated a thoughtful dialogue with clay for six decades, developing a practice that reflects both mastery and continual invention. Born and trained in Japan before eventually settling in Australia via the United States, Shoji has become one of the most influential figures in Australian ceramics, shaping generations of artists through his work and teaching. This exhibition presents a selection of works spanning the breadth of Shoji's oeuvre, from refined functional vessels to sculpture, installation and his innovative ceramic paintings.
