Following a strictly iterative logic, Conor O'Shea presents a new series of sculptural iterations: a multiplicity of objects set in an array of materials including paper, ink, wax, and stone. Since 2014, the artist has produced over 200 drawings, which form the basis for this exhibition. As drawings are documented and repeated, simple forms multiply and evolve, continually shifting in appearance. By producing hundreds of images within narrow parameters and selecting the most 'successful' among them, O'Shea then preserves only a few for the exhibition, sealing them in wax or plastic sleeves. These works are recontextualised through digital documentation, presented in books, and circulated online. The exhibition meticulously reproduces the circulatory logic of contemporary art, examining both the repetitive process of producing imagery and the degree to which images are subsequently distributed. The work engages with repetition as a parameter for relentless reproduction, and documentation as a means of mimicking circulation and market judgment. By evacuating itself of content and focusing on frameworks and conduits, O'Shea's practice reflects on the essential conditions of contemporary art's reproduction.
